For the past several weeks, we at D.O.E. have been working on the awards book for the annual Seattle Show. I won’t spoil too much about the insides of this book but one of the bells and whistles is the canvas cover. Some buddies over at Arscentia were able to laminate canvas to our press sheets to make one spiffy cover. After they were delivered, we went to town hand stenciling each and every one. 800 sheets for 1600 books. Our backs hurt, our fingers hurt, our knees hurt, but it was a pretty swell project. Photos ahoy!

After the vinyl cutter goes to work Corin pops out the letters

A finished stencil!

Jynn dropped some plywood on her foot, now her toe’s broken…and gross

The press sheets have to be cut down before they’re painted so they can be jogged and cut after the guts of the book have been bound

20 covers on each side with tons of paint, it’s time to get serious

Corin’s putting the painter clothes on

Broken toe? Who cares? Jynn doesn’t, so she’s painting!

Speckling then commenced to get shit a little messy, this probably shouldn’t go in anyone’s mouth

Then the covers had to be placed on a drying rack.

From the rack to the bindery they will go! Good bye covers! We will see you again soon when you come back as real life books!

Corin and Jynn celebrate, and look like idiots, and reflect on a job well done!

See you at the show!
